Step 1: Prepare Your Device

Before you begin:

  • Ensure your device is running:
    • iOS: Version 16.0 or newer
    • Android: Version 11.0 or newer
  • Set a device lock with at least medium complexity PIN
  • Keep your Microsoft apps updated via the App Store or Google Play

Step 2: Install Microsoft Authenticator

  1. Open the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
  2. Search for Microsoft Authenticator.
  3. Tap Install and wait for the app to download.
  4. Once installed, open the app and allow necessary permissions (e.g., camera access).

Step 3: Begin Account Setup

  1. On your computer open a browser window
  2. Navigate to office.com 
  3. Click sign in and sign in with your work email and password
  4. A pop up will appear stating that your account requires additional security. 
  5. Click through these prompts until a QR code appears on your screen.

Step 4: Scan the QR Code

  1. On your phone, open the Microsoft Authenticator app.
  2. Tap the + icon or Add account.
  3. Choose Work or school account.
  4. Select Scan QR code.
  5. Point your phone’s camera at the QR code on your computer screen.
  6. Once scanned, your account will be added to the app.

Step 5: Confirm Setup

  1. Return to your computer and click Next or Verify.
  2. You’ll receive a notification on your phone from the Authenticator app.
  3. Tap Approve to complete the setup.
